E-bike charging station

How about exploring Europe by bike?

My love of cycling led me to choose a cycling-related topic for my thesis. I am also interested in new approaches to familiar activities, so I was drawn to the idea of long-distance touring on an e-bike: travelling a few hundred kilometres a day without the fitness of an elite athlete. Such journeys need infrastructure, with a network of charging stations at its core. I therefore designed a charging station with a recognisable identity, helping cyclists explore places far from home with fewer difficulties.

Function

Purpose

The lack of consistency between charging stations is a problem in Europe and elsewhere. Once you cross a border on an e-bike, you may have no option but to use your own charger and a mains socket. Carrying the charger adds weight, and charging can take roughly twice as long as at a dedicated station. This wall-mounted unit does not attempt to standardise charging connectors. Instead, it allows an operator to replace them when required.

Form

The shape of the station is designed primarily to improve its resistance to adverse weather. Positioning the charging ports on angled side faces reduces cable crossings and makes the layout easier to understand. The front face also provides space for useful information about charging or local cycling routes.
